Sweet Tea Shakespeare Spring Auditions

Sweet Tea Shakespeare will hold auditions for its 2018 Spring productions of Jane Eyre, The Tempest, and Pericles on February 6 from 6:30pm to 9pm at the Capitol Encore Academy at 126 Hay Street in Fayetteville, NC. Auditions are by appointment only. Enter TCEA off of Old Street at the back of the building.

To register for auditions, complete the audition form at http://www.sweetteashakespeare.com/auditions. There, you may upload a resume and headshot. Actors outside traveling distance may submit a video audition.
Sweet Tea Shakespeare pays modest stipends; full details are provided with offers. Productions also involve cross-gender casting of roles and double-casting. The rehearsal process often begins with intensive text work; actors typically are requested to arrive at the first rehearsal with some text work complete (instruction is provided) and their lines memorized.

As part of the STS experience, actors are expected to take part in one or more of the following activities:
-musical entertainment prior to the show, during the show, and/or at intermission
-other entertainments, such as juggling, dancing, etc.
-audience interaction, including selling merchandise, handing out programs, etc. before the show and at intermission
-assisting with set up and strike of costumes, props, scenery, lighting, and sound equipment for each performance as part of a team
-assisting with marketing efforts

Auditions consist of:
-A Shakespeare monologue of 12-16 lines maximum
-If you sing, please prepare one of the following songs: Dear Wormwood (Oh Hellos), Name (Derek Webb). You may be asked to sing acapella or with a guitar or piano. Recordings are freely available on YouTube or a music service.
-If you play an instrument from chord sheets, please bring it and play one of the same songs listed above; if you play an instrument that uses sheet music, please prepare the melody line from Behold (Andrew Peterson). We also invite you to show us your chops by inventing harmonic and melodic lines that could be played along with any of these songs.
-Selected cold readings from the plays.
-Potential dance or movement work.
-Brief interview questions.

Guidelines:
-We are interested in meeting the most authentic version of yourself possible, and in seeing what you can do.
-We are interested in your prior theatre experience.
-We are interested in why you are interested in the work we do.
-These are low-pressure auditions. Come as you are.
-Do not bring extra headshots or resumes. Submit electronically only.
Please direct questions about auditions to

Songs for a New World

Sweet Tea Shakespeare’s first-ever musical is Jason Robert Brown’s beloved “theatrical song cycle” about making choices in the modern world. A handful of performers portray multiple characters facing a moment of decision in their families, jobs, and relationships; their choices and consequences are revealed through some of musical theatre’s most-loved songs.
