2018-2019 Season Auditions

Sweet Tea Shakespeare will hold auditions for its 2018-19 season on Saturday, June 16 from 2-4:30 pm at the Capitol Encore Academy at 126 Hay Street in Fayetteville, NC. Auditions are by appointment only. Enter TCEA off of Old Street at the back of the building.

To register for auditions, complete the audition form at http://www.sweetteashakespeare.com/auditions. There, you may upload a resume and headshot. Actors outside traveling distance may submit a video audition.

Sweet Tea Shakespeare pays modest stipends; full details are provided with offers. Productions also involve cross-gender casting of roles and double-casting. The rehearsal process often begins with intensive text work; actors typically are requested to arrive at the first rehearsal with some text work complete (instruction is provided) and their lines memorized.

Please prepare a Shakespeare monologue of no more than 12-16 lines. If you sing, please prepare a song in a style reminiscent of Mumford and Sons or the Oh Hellos. You may be asked to sing acapella or with a guitar or piano. If you are interested in auditioning for Sweeney Todd, please prepare 16 bars of the Opening Ballad to be sung with or without accompaniment.

If you play an instrument from chord sheets, please bring it and play one of the same songs listed above; if you play an instrument that uses sheet music, please prepare the melody line from Behold (Andrew Peterson). We also invite you to show us your chops by inventing harmonic and melodic lines that could be played along with any of these songs.

You may also be asked to present selected cold readings from the plays, to participate in dance or movement work, and to answer brief interview questions.

As part of the STS experience, actors are expected to take part in activities such as musical entertainment prior to the show, during the show, and/or at intermission; other entertainments, such as juggling, dancing, etc; audience interaction, including selling merchandise, handing out programs, etc. before the show and at intermission; assisting with set up and strike of costumes, props, scenery, lighting, and sound equipment for each performance as part of a team; and assisting with marketing efforts.

Please do not bring extra headshots or resumes. Email artistic@sweetteashakespeare.com or call 910-420-4383 with any questions.
